Join exhibiting artist Hans Arkeveld and curator Dr Robyn Taylor for an afternoon of storytelling set to the backdrop of the 2020 Shire of Mundaring Retrospective exhibition Homo Eclectic. Having a long professional history, Hans and Robyn will discuss the themes of this current exhibition with tangents and asides that link the works on display to his extensive career and various political and social issues.
Hans Arkeveld has been closely associated with Mundaring Arts Centre since he moved to Hovea in 1982, as an artist, member and patron, and was awarded an honorary Life Membership in 2016 for his contributions to the arts community. He has exhibited in numerous Mundaring Arts Centre group exhibitions, tutored participants in the public program, and was commissioned to create one of the first sculptural works for the Mundaring Sculpture Park in 1988. Four of Arkeveld’s works are represented in the Shire of Mundaring Art Collection and he is treasured for his generosity and endless pursuit of knowledge.
Dr Robyn Taylor works as a professional historian with a special interest in Western Australia’s art, architecture and cultural heritage. Having studied at various institutions in WA, NSW and the UK, she has lectured in Art history, consulted for AGWA, The Martime Museum, Fremantle, and Central TAFE. Robyn has received awards including Champion Award for the Year of the Built Environment (May 2004) and High Commendation at the 2012 Western Australian Heritage Awards for ‘outstanding contribution to heritage by a professional’.
