Join Louise Wells and Anne Williams for an early morning sensory walk along the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail in Mundaring, followed by a simple breakfast and private viewing of their collaborative exhibition It’s a Matter of How You Look at Things.

The rhythm of walking and the reflective space this provides, are central to the daily walks of Louise and Anne. Learn how their exhibition arose from taking inspiration from the small, often overlooked elements of their respective communities observed during their daily walks.

Hear from a selection of Western Australia’s leading fibre artists and facilitators, as they discuss the rich and diverse practice of fibre art across the state as part of the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial.

Martien van Zuilen is a maker of felt, Convenor of Fibres West and is exhibiting in HOLD at Midland Junction Arts Centre until 30 Oct. 

A crucial figure in the development of contemporary fibre sculpture in Australia, Nalda Searles' exhibition Finders Keepers is on display at Mundaring Arts Centre until 30 Oct. 

Sharyn Egan is a painter, weaver and sculptor exhibiting in multiple Indian Ocean Craft Triennial exhibitions and presenting a workshop at Mundaring Arts Centre on 19 Sep.

Pip Hoy is a mixed media artist working in appliqué, embroidery and quilting and current Vice President of WAFTA.

Start the new financial year right with this essential book-keeping workshop for artists hosted by Liz Haselgrove from BOSS Centre. You’ll learn all you need to know about record keeping, invoices, tax and GST obligations to easily manage your arts business. Take home templates for Profit and Loss, Cashflow and Book-keeping will be provided.

BOSS Centre is a government funded small business support centre offering 1-1 sessions and workshops under the Entrepreneurship Facilitators Service. 

This workshop is offered both in person at BOSS Centre (just across the road from Midland Junction Arts Centre or online via Zoom Webinar.

A selection of writers from the Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers’ Centre will also share their poems produced during workshops.

After a light afternoon tea, exhibiting artist Michelle Campbell will discuss her first solo show Urban and her exploration of the impact of the changing urban landscape through contemporary painting.

Dale will share her wealth of knowledge about Australian native edibles. She will walk you around the Bibbulmun region with her descriptions and stories about local food traditionally consumed by Aboriginal people, Aboriginal agricultural practices and the six seasons.

Taste a variety of wild bush foods, such as quandong, native limes, sandalwood nuts and local coastal greens. Sniff, touch and taste native Australian herbs, spices and peppers, discover the uses of bush tucker plants, their medicinal properties and the surprising health benefits they offer.

Artist Statements with Gemma Weston

Learn to translate your art practice into words with Gemma Weston. In this 1h Webinar, you’ll learn to construct your own artist statement to accompany your artwork that can be customised for awards, grants, websites and exhibition applications. Gemma will discuss techniques for creating clear, concise, descriptive and individual language and examine how language can be tailored to different contexts. Participants will also have the opportunity to submit an artist statement of 300 words or less for individual feedback and editing. 

Gemma is Perth Festival's Visual Arts Program Associate, overseeing the curation and delivery of the Festival's Visual Arts Program Partnership with Wesfarmers Arts. From 2013 - 2019 she was Curator of the Cruthers Collection of Women's Art at UWA's Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery and has also co-founded two 'artist-run' galleries, OK Gallery (2011-13) and Pet Projects (2015 - 2017). She publishes regularly on contemporary art. Her writing has recently been included in Monash University Museum of Arts' Certain Situations, a monograph on the work of Agatha Gothe-Snape and in journals Art Monthly Australasia, Artlink and Western Australia's Semaphore. Catch Gemma’s work as part of CRITICAL TIME at Midland Junction Arts Centre under her “poorly concealed pseudonym”.
