Grounding brings together three works form the Shire of Mundaring Art Collection which represent ‘productive’ landscapes. This perspective is of particular relevance in the Perth Hills – which forms a threshold between the urban city area and landscapes that are shaped to serve a function through the primary industries – namely mining and agriculture.

Semi-trailer trucks rumble past just five meters from Mundaring Arts Centre with bales of wool stacked three high and fifteen long, filled to the brim with wheat, barley and other grains, or packed with sheep and cattle. Exploring traditions connected to sheep and wool production in Australia, Sheep Show, celebrates, abstracts, and unpacks this significant industry via its material and cultural expressions.

HANS ARKEVELD | SHIRE OF MUNDARING Retrospective ART ACQUISITION EXHIBITION

Hans Arkeveld is one of WA’s foremost artists and sculptors. This retrospective exhibition documents his 50-plus year multi-disciplinary practice, long-term engagement with the University of Western Australia Anatomy Department, and draws on his passion for the machinations and form of the human body as well as social justice issues.
