A wide range of artists, historians, community groups and volunteers have planned an exceptional Open Day, which promises to be a highlight of the Machines and Makers program.
THE PROPOSED PROGRAM INCLUDES
- Old Stuff Road Show
- Experts in sewing machines giving talks and demonstrations and discussing peoples sewing machines
- Experts in textiles and clothing providing advice on age, construction, care and maintenance of objects
- Amazement – a display of some of the most astonishing early sewing machines in WA
- Flatten It – Ironing Competition, using irons from the 1960’sand 70’s with a high profile judging panel
- Sewing Machine Display – a selection of one of Australia’s most comprehensive sewing machine collections
- How Grannie Did It – demonstrations of cleaning a flatiron, cutting paper patterns, using a mannequin
- Tryout a Treadle – an opportunity to try out a treadle machine under the watchful eye of volunteers
- Story Sharing – Mundaring Library community project –memory stories written onto paper dress cut outs and pinned up
- Vintage and Collectables Swap Meet – clothing, textiles, machines and parts
- Quilting Now – a display of quilts from members of Mundaring Sharing
- Snap It – a display of sewing themed photographs by Mundaring Camera club
- Guess Wot Film – a competition to name the films from which still images of sewing and machines come
- Cuppa tea, a Bex and a nice lie down - Morning and afternoon tea provided by the CWA
- Good gravy - Lunch time soup provided by Save the Children Fund
