CURATED BY SARAH TOOHEY
A Needle Pulling Thread celebrates the remarkable sewing machine, once a centerpiece in people's homes and an object of awe and respect. It provides an opportunity to share stories about times when 'making-do' and making your own clothing were everyday. In this community display, stitched objects are assembled in a shrine to the sewing machine. The small, personalized needle cases pincushions, birds and dolls from sewing groups, high school students, primary school students and individuals, tell stories of personal connections to the sewing machine and local history through stitch, fabric and embellishment.
