Food for Thought at Mundaring Markets

Visit the Food for Thought Bazaar in the Mundaring Sculpture Park or wander down to Mundaring Arts Centre to experience a Kung-Fu tea ceremony, share delicious bush tucker and create your own food vessel as we start a community journey exploring how food shapes our culture, experiences and art.

Nestled within the Sunday Markets, which brings a range of yummy food, live music and market stalls to the heart of Mundaring, the Food for Thought Bazaar will showcase the work of local artisans and fine food providores.

KUNG-FU TEA CEREMONY WITH CAROL NATALOTTO

Take part in a traditional Taiwanese Kung-Fu Tea Ceremony with Carol Natalotto. 

Slow down and join Carol in one of three 20 minute sessions as she shares her tea making skills and knowledge of tea houses and ceramic tea wares.

Have a Go | Clay Plates

Have a go at making a small decorated serving dish from clay with local artist Bernard Kerr.

You’ll make a rectangular or oval dish, perfect for serving tapas, side dishes or snacks by press moulding using a wooden form. Decorate your plate with coloured underglazes and slips using cut paper resist and sgraffito techniques.

Bush Tucker Talk and Tasting with Dale Tilbrook

Join Wardandi Bibbulmun woman Dale Tilbrook during the Twilight Market on a cultural journey that will ignite all the senses.

Dale will share her wealth of knowledge about Australian native edibles. She will walk you around the Bibbulmun region with her descriptions and stories about local food traditionally consumed by Aboriginal people, Aboriginal agricultural practices and the six seasons.

Taste a variety of wild bush foods, such as quandong, native limes, sandalwood nuts and local coastal greens. Sniff, touch and taste native Australian herbs, spices and peppers, discover the uses of bush tucker plants, their medicinal properties and the surprising health benefits they offer.  

Plus there is a free opportunity to meet Dale Tilbrook 11:30am - 12:15pm

Join West Australian poet and short story writer Josephine Clarke and create your own written work exploring the theme of Food for Thought: What’s for dinner?

With separate workshops for 14-17 and 18-23 year olds, these two part workshops will explore ways of thinking and writing about food and play with ways of putting food onto the page.

18 and 23 year olds will additionally look at the work of other writers and create new work, that will add flavour to how we think about what we eat. Writers will also learn techniques for editing and presenting their work for publication.

Selected pieces will be showcased in an exhibition and a short promotional film celebrating Katharine Susannah Prichard Writer’s Centre, the Shire of Mundaring and Mundaring Arts Centre as a part of the Food for Thought project.

Join Kate Campbell-Pope in the April School Holidays to construct a vessel or basket with fibres such as sweetcorn, coconut, banana leaves and grapevines that you won't be-leaf it's made from food. 

Selected pieces will be showcased in an exhibition and a short promotional film celebrating Katharine Susannah Prichard Writer’s Centre, the Shire of Mundaring and Mundaring Arts Centre as a part of the Food for Thought project.

Parents and guardians welcome, children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Please wear enclosed shoes, clothes you don’t mind getting messy, a drink bottle and a nut free snack.

Fibre Vessels with Kate Campbell-Pope

Join leading fibre artist Kate Campbell-Pope to learn weaving and construction techniques to create your own vessel out of fibres associated with food sources and traditional food presentation, such as sweetcorn, coconut, banana leaves, grapevine and leaves. 

Selected pieces will be showcased in an exhibition as a part of the Food for Thought project.

Please wear enclosed shoes, clothes you don’t mind getting messy and your lunch.
